The Cattleman

The best cattlemen in the world typically

  • Own a large number of head

  • Essentially are not be able to leave their property very often

  • Their sole income is raising cattle

  • Are not using much if any of today’s newest technologies.

They are also very likely to be terrible at marketing, which is mainly because

  • They produce cattle that sell themselves.

  • Have no need to advertise on social media or learn how to if they are sold out.

  • They typically come from an older generation that never had today’s marketing tools.

  • Have customers that have been established over the years by word of mouth.

Additionally, they typically come across as having a rather a blunt personality. To continue breeding cattle in the traditional manner and sticking to your principles, when the rest of the industry says you are doing it wrong takes a stubborn type of person. Especially when many other breeders are “selling” cattle for much higher prices.

A simple analogy is how some of the best food in the world comes from the “hole in the wall” restaurants. Why would a restaurant spend a bunch of money and time advertising, building a website, creating social media pages, and send out weekly email blasts if their parking lot is always full?

This has lead to genetic companies not representing or selling the genetics that are what’s best for the cattle industry. Because they are profit driven companies, they typically sell what makes them the most easy money and not what is necessarily best for the client.
